I love Yorkville and the area surrounding it: its charm keeps extending itself, which connects bits and pieces of Toronto together. The posh and hip combination of Yorkville has branched out to the Rosedale area, making it one of the most amazing neighbourhoods in the city for strolling. If you find yourself in the area, do yourself a favour and visit Boxcar Social, a trendy cafe and every coffee lover’s heaven. They not only serve great coffee (and yes, they do have cortados!), but play good music and have baristas that are so sophisticated that you want their coolness to rub off on you. And they’re not snobby, they just make everyone else want to be them.
If you’re here in the summer, make sure you sit outside on their beautiful patio, an all-wooden environment that makes for great Instagram pictures at the right time of day. And I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to treat yourself to a “Caramelita bar” (a little play on words). It’s a gooey, sticky combination of all things good and tasty: chocolate, caramel, and some form of crumble. Oh, yes. You have to experience it for yourself. If you are prone to feeling guilty from such indulgences, walk your butt over to the cafe instead of driving or taking the TTC. I ran/walked about 17km throughout the entire day, so I felt guilt-free.
I hope you head down to Boxcar Social sometime before the weather gets cold! If the Caramelitas were not enough to convince you, perhaps their website will. And a tip: don’t go alone. It’s called Boxcar Social for a reason. For a cafe perfect for doing work and reading, see this cafe and this cafe.
