I recently tried out Gold Star Café, located just south of Yonge and Eglinton, near Art Shoppe. This café caught my eye with its modern decor, contrasted with pictures of iconic film stars such as Audrey Hepburn and Marlin Brando. The interior sure lived up to its name!
This café is proud to serve organic, healthy desserts (for the raw vegans out there, and all you other picky eaters) and their coffee is delicious. You can tell if they know their brews when their decaf espresso is good. I couldn’t tell the difference. My cappucino was lovely, thank you.
And if you do not happen to go to cafés for espresso or coffee (honestly though, why even bother?) they have juices and smoothies!
The only thing that slightly bothered me about this café were the paper cups. I don’t know about you, but I like my espresso drinks Central Perk style: in a giant ceramic mug. I hate to-go cups, and hang my head in shame whenever I walk out of a café in a rush with a paper cup. Life begins after coffee! However, the vintage-esque stamp on the front made up for my disappointment, as it’s equal parts chic and simple.
I also happen to have a coupon for a free drink. So I’ll be going back.
